David McCallum and Selina Box are children’s entertainers putting healthy eating and physical activity on the menu in schools throughout Queensland.
In 2011, concerned by growing rates of childhood obesity and the impact of poor nutrition on learning and children’s long-term health and well-being, David and Selina devised the Eat Smart B Active® and Healthiest School Awards® program to promote healthier food choices and increased physical activity in local communities.
Encompassing an educational live show featuring their group The Boogie Woogie Superhero Band®, the program includes a measurable and sustainable technology-driven rewards challenge to find each region’s healthiest school.
Since commencing in 2012, more than 7500 students have participated across South-East Queensland, and based on solid sound evidence teachers reported that students’ nutritional intake, physical activity and concentration levels improved.
Now working to take the program national, David and Selina are Creating Healthier Communities™ – in the most fun and friendly way possible.
